The West Essex Knights had some great teams over the years, but the 2003-2004 team has been the one to remember. Coached by Hall of Fame Player and Coach Mike Giampapa, the team went on to an 18-6-4 record. Along the way, the team beat some of the top teams in the state including St. Peter’s Prep and Ridge High School. Goalie Shawn Moran was outstanding all year long, with a stellar performance in the State Championship Game, making 31 saves in a 2-1 victory against Ridge. This was the last year with a 64 team draw and WE is the only Group II school to win the State Championship Outright.
