Morris Knolls
2004-2005
The 2004–2005 Morris Knolls Golden Eagles etched their names into New Jersey hockey history by capturing the program’s first-ever NJSIAA Public A State Championship. Finishing the season with a remarkable 24–3–3 record, this squad was defined by a relentless, “blue-collar” work ethic and a physical defensive identity that became the hallmark of Morris Knolls hockey. Their historic campaign culminated in a 4–1 victory over local rival Randolph in the state final, a win that broke long-standing barriers and established the Golden Eagles as a premier public school powerhouse.
Led by Walt Keiper, who was honored as the Statewide Coach of the Year, the team blended veteran leadership with rising talent. Key contributors like JT Baxter (First Team All-State), goaltender Josh Ofner (Second Team All-State), and players such as Zach Lancaster, Dennis Crothers, and Tim Kepler formed a tight-knit family that prioritized playing for one another. Their championship run was not just a victory for a single season, but the start of a lasting legacy—a tradition continued by alumni who later returned to lead the program to subsequent state titles.
