Steve Ruggerio

Since 2010, Stephen has served as the General Manager/Director of Essex County Codey Arena and has held the position for the past 16 years. He currently serves on the NJIIHL Executive Board and the NJSIAA High School Ice Hockey Committee.

Stephen began his teaching career with the Archdiocese of Newark, where he taught grades 6–8 for 16 years. His coaching career began at West Essex High School (4 years) before moving on to head coaching positions at Morristown High School (2 years), West Orange (4 years), and Verona High School (22 years). Stephen is currently in his third year as the Assistant Varsity Ice Hockey Coach and Director of Hockey Operations at Seton Hall Prep.

In addition to coaching ice hockey, he also coached the Varsity Boys and Girls Tennis teams at Verona for 12 years and the Varsity Boys Tennis team at Seton Hall Prep for 10 years.

In 2009, he was recognized as the Star-Ledger Ice Hockey Coach of the Year, and in 2022, he received the Special Recognition Award from the Essex County Athletic Directors Association in appreciation of his dedication and contributions to Essex County athletes. Throughout his coaching career, he has also earned Essex County Coach of the Year honors in both ice hockey and tennis, Star-Ledger Essex County Coach of the Year, and Conference Coach of the Year honors.
